FLOODGUARD

The FloodGuard platform

Data in. Intelligence out. Nothing hidden in between.

FloodGuard brings decades of observed data, terrain, satellite observations and climate projections into one consistent flood record — then models it into intelligence you can inspect, question and act on.

How it works

From scattered data to one decision-ready answer.

Flood data in India exists — it is just spread across agencies, formats and time periods. The platform does the slow work of bringing it together, so every product and every number starts from the same foundation.

  1. 01Collect

Observed rainfall, recorded floods, terrain, drainage, satellite observations and climate projections.

  2. 02Harmonise

Aligned to one grid and one timeline, from 1951 to today, at district and taluka scale.

  3. 03Model

Hazard, exposure and vulnerability, combined into one comparable measure of risk.

  4. 04Validate

Checked against floods that actually happened, with the result reported alongside.

  5. 05Deliver

Maps, scores, reports and data — in our products or inside your own systems.

Inside the platform

Five parts, each inspectable on its own.

Nothing here is a black box. Every number we publish can be traced back to the data and the method that produced it.

01

Data

One continuous record, not a pile of disconnected extracts.

Observed climate, satellite and remote sensing, terrain, hydrological records and climate projections are held as a single, consistent series — the same record for 1951 as for last monsoon — so trends are real trends, not artefacts of a change in source.

  • Observed rainfall and river levels
  • Recorded historical flood events
  • Satellite and remote sensing observations
  • Terrain, drainage and land use
  • Climate projections for future scenarios
02

Technology

The right model for each question — not one model for everything.

Geospatial processing, statistical analysis, hydrological reasoning and machine learning are each applied where they are strongest. Machine learning earns its place where it measurably improves a result; it is never used to paper over gaps in the data.

  • Geospatial processing at district and taluka scale
  • Statistical and hydrological modelling
  • Machine learning where it earns its place
  • Reproducible, versioned model runs
03

Methodology

Written down, so a result can be argued with rather than taken on trust.

Risk is built from three parts — the hazard (how often and how badly an area floods), the exposure (what is in the water's path) and the vulnerability (how much damage it would do). How they are combined is documented, with every assumption stated.

  • Hazard × exposure × vulnerability, documented
  • Assumptions stated, not implied
  • Uncertainty reported with every figure
  • Versioned method notes
04

Validation

Checked against the floods that actually happened.

Model output is back-tested against recorded flood events, and those checks are reported alongside the result — not kept in a separate file nobody reads. Where the model is less certain, we say so.

  • Back-testing against observed floods
  • Independent review of method
  • Published performance notes

API & delivery

Intelligence that fits the workflow you already run.

Use FloodGuard through Explorer, Atlas and Live, or bring the same intelligence into your own underwriting, lending, GIS or planning systems — instead of moving your team into ours.

  • REST endpoints
  • Bulk data
  • Map tiles

Why you can rely on it

Built to be checked, not just believed.

01Observed first

Built on decades of observations, not a modelled average with no history behind it.

02Transparent methods

Documented assumptions and versioned method notes — nothing is a black box.

03Honest about uncertainty

Every figure ships with its confidence attached, never stripped off.

04Built for India

Resolved to the districts and talukas where Indian decisions are actually made.
